So today we almost made it to Carmel! We drove up Highway 1, the Coastal road, with
lovely views of the sea all the way here. We stopped at Santa Cruz for a wander around the
Boardwalk an old amusement arcade and fairground. We had a ride on the Giant Dipper, which
is an old wooden roller coaster, the 7th oldest in U.S.A., and was opened in August 1924.
We were very brave and fearless as Andrew says it's one of the worst roller coaster rides
he's been on as it looks fairly tame and isn't! Andrew won me a cuddly seahorse too, she's
really cute, but nameless so far. We ate at a really good Mexican place, chicken, beef and
prawn fahita's and a banana, pineapple and coconut smoothie to die for! We arrived at the Monterey Plaza Hotel around 6 p.m. Our room is really
nice with a great view of the sea and a balcony and a king size bed. Toto didn't like it
coz he died when he got here! Andrew is a hero and resuscitated him, so all is well. We
went for a walk by the sea and had a beer and a smoothie, then went to change for dinner.
This was pretty average and overpriced for what it was. The service and wine were
excellent, pudding was good, entree - Andrew left most of his and I ate two thirds of mine
having sent it back to start with, coffee was undrinkable for both of us, and a good time
was had by all!!!! We will get to Carmel tomorrow!
