Today the Intrepid Explorers checked out the rest of Carmel, it really is gorgeous, we
could live here! The little Art Galleries are brilliant, we particularly enjoyed the
Weston which has loads of Ansel Adams photography, some truly wonderful prints. Andrew
bought one of his books there, as we browsed, and wished we took photo's like he does.
Another place we really liked was the New Renaissance Gallery, some brilliant seascapes,
and three paintings by Seiver, one in particular a snip at $6580, of Paris at the turn of
the Century. Teresa Bindel the consultant, (who was trying hard to sell it to us) showed
it to us in the viewing room, it was amazing how much the light changed it. In full light
it was sunlit, clear and light. But as she turned down the light it grew more moody and on
dim it looked cloudy, misty, the houses lights were lit and the pavement looked wet as if
it had suddenly rained. The whole thing, which I have not described well enough had an
incredible impact on us. We also looked around the original Blue Dog Gallery, which gave
us a totally different outlook, may I say? We went into a chocolate shop to treat us to 2
choccies each, a shop to buy a pretty Carmel T-shirt for me, then our general meanderings.
We lunched in a local bakery beef and chicken rolls and a delectable apricot gooey cake
thing that Andrew found! We drove down to the sea and wandered taking photos and walking,
the sand is sooooh white it hurts your eyes! We found a crooked house that I want to live
in NOW! The cypress trees are all windswept and interesting, the whole place is just
perfect. We reluctantly left (but only coz we have a plane to catch tomorrow) and headed
towards Big Basin as Andrew was ill when I went there and I wanted him to see the giant
Redwoods, we followed the same trail as I did the other day and found the Mother Tree
where we sat inside, incredible and wonderful. We then headed back to S.F. and dropped off
the car, before going down to Van Ness one last time for another wonderful steak dinner at
Ruth Chris Steak House which was where we had our first meal in S.F. Ah how romantic I
hear you say. Well sad to say this is the last day, our last report, the last of the wine
etc. See you all very shortly and we hope you all enjoyed this as much as we did (except
Polly of course who said "sad geeks get on with your holiday") Farewell from the
Intrepid Explorers - Rubber Duck over and out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
